How Does SLC Work?

Step 1: Attend Informational Meeting

At our State Leadership Conference (SLC) informational meetings, we aim to help members learn more about the opportunities it will provide and how participating in SLC is beneficial to your path on becoming a health professional. Concerned about the financial aspect of attending the convention? Attend this meeting to be informed on our financial breakdown and payment options! Come see if SLC is for you :))

Step 2: Pay affiliation fee

In order to be an official member of the HOSA organization and participate/attend SLC, you must pay a $25 affiliation fee! Our hard deadline for this is                    - please contact us at ucihosa@gmail.com or send us a DM to our Instagram @ucihosa for more information on how to pay this fee! We accept cash, Venmo, Zelle, Cashapp, PayPal :)) This early deadline will allow us to affiliate everyone in a timely manner!

Step 3: Fill out the sign-up form and choose your events

Decided that you want to participate in SLC and already paid the affiliation fee? Fill out the form below due                  - this early deadline will allow us to affiliate/sign up everyone for their events in a timely manner! Please read the form carefully and its entirety! Scroll down to see the list of 2023 SLC events - for more information on a specific event, please click here to visit the Cal-HOSA website :))

You must choose 1 RED event and 1 BLUE event! Green events are optional and are unlimited - feel free to choose as many you would like!

Step 4: Study and pay other fees

After filling out the form, all you have to do left is to start studying/preparing for your events! During this time, the SLC Committee will contact you about various SLC-related things - including info for group chats, study sessions, payments, uniform checks, and more. The board and SLC Committee will be trying our best to prepare our best to lower fees and make your SLC experience as fun as possible!

Step 5: RCE Testing

Certain events will require RCE testing and you MUST pass this test before you qualify for the first round of testing for SLC! This test is CLOSED NOTES, and DOES REQUIRE A PROCTOR. This test can only be taken once on specific days depending on your event(s) - the SLC Committee will send group reminders, but each person is responsible for knowing their test date(s). Stay updated with our Google Calendar!

If you do not pass RCE testing or round 1, you may still attend SLC for the workshops and experience as a whole :)) Every affiliated member is allowed to attend SLC, however, you will not be able to compete in Round 1 or at the convention itself.

Step 6: Round 1 - Online Testing

The first round of SLC is very similar to RCE because it is also another CLOSED NOTES AND PROCTORED test and must be passed to advance to the second round taking place at the convention. This test can only be taken once on specific days depending on your event(s) - the SLC Committee will send group reminders, but each person is responsible for knowing their test date(s). Stay updated with our Google Calendar!

Step 7: Preparing to go to SLC

The second round of SLC will be taking place at the convention. You will be contacted by the SLC Committee through group chat about everything needed in preparation for the event, which include travel items, study material, and uniforms.

Step 8: Round 2 -  Workshops and Testing/Presenting at SLC

For members qualified for the second round of SLC, you will be given information about the time and location of the testing at the convention. All materials should be on hand before testing. For members not qualified, workshops and booths are present throughout the center for exploration.
