SLC was such an amazing experience for me. I went 3 times in high school. I made some really great friends that I am still close with today. In addition to gaining knowledge in participating and studying for the events, I got to learn a lot about leadership as an officer for my chapter. I got to attend many different workshops such as emergency preparedness and got to network with medical professionals.

Going to SLC was an extremely memorable experience for me because I was able to be surrounded by people who also had a passion for healthcare and gained exposure to information healthcare professionals may have learned. The process of preparing and participating in SLC had a significant impact on my decision of whether the healthcare field was for me. At SLC, I had the opportunity to be recognized in the Barabara James Service Award event for my 250+ hours of volunteer service.

I’ve been to SLC three times and have loved my experience as a participant and competitor. SLC gave me the opportunity to explore new fields and topics in health care and helped me make new friends. The events I’ve competed in allowed to me to learn concepts about pathophysiology, pharmacology, and even how to formulate innovations in healthcare. My favorite part was participating in the group competitive event with my friends in the day and having a fun dinner with them at night

I’ve attended HOSA’s 2018 and 2019 State Leadership Conference during my involvement in my high school’s chapter, and it was a rewarding experience. My favorite part was the freedom to explore different aspects of the healthcare field. Personally, I am interested in neurology and psychology, and was able to educate myself on these career fields through the behavioral health knowledge test and health career display event. It’s also a great social opportunity because there’s plenty of free time to get closer with your chapter and explore the city the conference is in. I would highly recommend attending SLC because some of my greatest memories and accomplishments came from there!

SLC was an interesting experience to say the least--from waking up at 5am to running around the convention center to doing our events to watching the awards ceremony to coming back to the hotel late at night. It was an extremely eye-opening experience because even though we were so exhausted by the end of the day yet the positive energy never left. You can feel the positivity and passion these fellow student have and it's really inspiring because it makes you want to be the best version of yourself.
